How to Save on the Time and Cost of Expedites
Barkley often recommends that attorneys order deposition realtime when they are wanting to save on the time and costs of expedites of their deposition transcripts. Designed to let attorneys see the transcript as the testimony is recorded, realtime enables attorneys to download or email themselves a copy of rough draft of the transcript before ending the deposition. Voila! No more ordering costly expedites when taking back-to-back depositions in a case, working under tight deadlines, or having concerns about missing testimony.
Realtime also has some great features that can be of value at the deposition. The keyword search enables testimony to be quickly found for reading back to the witness, which is particularly valuable for impeachment purposes or to help get the clarification needed. Lines of the transcript can be marked so testimony can be quickly revisited or compared. Comments can be added and issues marked.
There is a higher per-page rate for realtime and streaming rates may apply. This helps compensate the realtime reporter for the software costs. Attorneys are also asked to agree to purchase a copy of the transcript. However, these costs are usually less than expedite charges–plus there’s no waiting!
