    Award 3

Best Supporting Actor ‑ Series, Limited Series, TV Movie

    Stellan Skarsgård, “Chernobyl”

STELLAN SKARSGÅRD:  I was so sure that I shouldn’t win, so I already thanked everybody.  I thanked the brilliant director Johan Renck and Craig Mazin for his great script and all the producers from Sister Pictures, HBO and everybody.  I should, though, thank one person, and that is Milos Forman who said to me a couple of years ago, “Stellan, I’ve seen so many films with you, but I never remember your face.”

    (Laughter.)

And I realize it was because I don’t have any eyebrows.  Nobody can tell if I’m angry or surprised.  It’s not like Colin Farrell.  You can tell if he’s angry 20 miles away.  So ‑‑ but for this film, Daniel Parker made a couple of eyebrows for me, and (raises statue in the air.)

    –BACKSTAGE INTERVIEW–

STELLAN SKARSGARD: Any questions? Thank you. Just joking.

QUESTION: Stellan, how hard was it — by all accounts, Chernobyl was an incredible experience for all of you. How hard was it for you when it was done to move on? Do you still think about the people at that time and what’s going on in the earth of that quarantined area?

STELLAN SKARSGARD: The thing is when you work with very dark material, you often have a lot of fun. You are not living the material unless, except, of course, when you are in front of the camera. So when I leave a set, I turn off. So it was very easy, and we had a lot of fun doing it. Everybody was working hard and treating the material very seriously, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t laugh and have fun.

QUESTION: Hi. I was wondering what it means to you to get this award this moment in your career?

STELLAN SKARSGARD: I don’t know. I’m still in shock. So I really didn’t expect it. I would have to talk to my psychiatrist about that, what it really means. QUESTION: What is next for you?

STELLAN SKARSGARD: Next for me is a small film in Europe with a young Chinese director that I can’t talk about that. Sorry.

QUESTION: Congratulations. I watched the whole show, and it was very devastating to watch. It was intense, but a great performance.

    STELLAN SKARSGARD: Thank you.

QUESTION: How does your night look like now that you won the award, surprisingly, as you said?

STELLAN SKARSGARD: The night would probably take the same path as if I hadn’t. I would do a couple of parties, and then I would fall into bed. I came in last night. So I’m pretty tired.

    QUESTION: Thank you.

    STELLAN SKARSGARD: Thank you.

QUESTION: Congratulations. You won tonight for a very serious role, but we also love, love watching you do comedy. If there was a reason for a Mama Mia 3 to exist, would you do it?

STELLAN SKARSGARD: I think I would. I mean, I don’t think I even consider it working doing those films because we have so much fun together. So I would consider doing it, yes. Thank you.
