How to Hear the Remote Deposition Audio More Clearly

  • How to Hear the Remote Deposition Audio More Clearly

Are you scheduled for a remote deposition when another member of your household also needs to use your Internet service?  The drain on your Wi Fi could affect your ability to hear the deponent clearly. You may experience dropouts or video lag causing the deponent`s voice to be out of sync with their video. One way to help ensure that your remote deposition goes smoothly is to free up bandwidth on the Mac, PC or laptop that you are using by connecting to the deposition audio via phone.

Connecting to the Remote Deposition Audio by Phone

When joining the deposition, choose “Phone Call” as your “Audio Conference Option.” Depending on the BarkleyMobile Videoconferencing platform selected for your deposition, a popup displays with a single or multiple phone numbers to choose from. Dial in, then follow the prompts to enter both the “Meeting ID/Conference Room Number” and your “Participant ID/Attendee ID” number.  You must enter both numbers to sync your voice with your video.

Switching Your Remote Deposition Audio Connection at the Deposition

If you choose to use the microphone and speaker on your computer but start experiencing dropouts or video lag, you can switch to receiving the audio by phone without leaving the deposition. Look for the icon in the toolbar indicating additional audio options. It could be an up arrow or three dots. This icon gives you the ability to switch to phone audio. Select phone audio for a number to call. Dial in and follow the prompts. Should you hear any reverb, you may need to manually disconnect from your computer audio.

When connecting by phone, be sure that you have a strong cell phone connection or join using a landline. If using your cell, plug in your phone so you do not run out of battery power. Also turn off any notifications set on your cell as well as  the ring tone so you are not interrupted at the deposition. Most importantly, be sure to manually mute your phone whenever you need to go off-record.
